Dr. Sushil Kumar Dash superannuated from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) as a Professor and Head of the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences (CAS). Soon after that, he continued there as Emeritus Professor for the next five years till August 2018. He was elected as the President of the Indian Meteorological Society (IMS) for the period 2018 to 2020. At present, he is continuing his R&D interests as Visiting Scientist in the DST Centre of Excellence in Climate Modelling in IITDelhi. In his 51 years of experience in teaching and research, Prof. Dash has successfully supervised 18 PhD, 11 M.Tech. and 5 M.Phil./M.Sc./MCA students. He has been very actively involved in sponsored R&D activities besides teaching. He has published more than 140 refereed papers in journals of repute apart from presenting a number of papers in conferences. He has written one book and edited three books related to Climate Change in India.
Prof. Dash is a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society and of the Indian Meteorological Society. He is the recipient of the prestigious Dr. A. D. Vernekar Award of IMS. Dr. Dash was a Senior Associate of the Abdus Salam ICTP, Trieste, Italy for a long period of 14yrs. He is Life Member and Member of a number of national and international bodies such as the American Meteorological Society and the National Academy of Sciences, India. He also served the IMS as its President for two years 2018-2020. Currently, Dr. Dash is a member in the Council of the International Forum of the Meteorological Societies (IFMS) representing Region II countries of WMO and he also chairs its Committee on Education and Training. Dr. Dash is the Founder President of a charitable organization called Foundation for Education and Research in Climate Change (FERCC). In addition, he is Founder Member of the South Asian Meteorological Association (SAMA).
Research interests of Prof. Dash include Inter-annual Variability of Indian Summer Monsoon, Climate Modelling and Regional Climate Change Studies and High Performance Computing in numerical weather models. Dr. Dash has been deputed to quite a number of reputed institutions across the world as Visiting Scientist. He has been serving a number of expert committees in the DST, MoES, SERB and several Universities as a member. Currently, he is the Chief Editor of the journal VayuMandal (Bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Society), a Member in the Editorial Board of Nature: Scientific Reports, Subject Editor in MAUSAM & the Indian Journal of Pure and Applied Physics (IJPAP) and Associate Editor in Current World Environment (CWE).
