South Asian Meteorological Association

South Asian Meteorological Association (SAMA), a non-profit International Scientific Society consisting of all the nine countries in the region, was established on 3rd August 2020. It is an active platform for sharing knowledge of weather & climate and related sciences among the professionals and the public. South Asian region has large varieties of weather phenomena such as the Monsoons, the Tropical Cyclones, the Western Disturbances, the Thunderstorms, Heavy rainfall, Heat wave, Cold wave etc which influence the life and economy of the people in various ways. Considering the importance of changes in weather & climate, the role of SAMA is very important. SAMA has been very active in organizing events such as online lecture series on Radar Meteorology, Satellite Meteorology and Atmospheric Physics; Webinar on Heatwave, Early Warning and Heat Action Plans in South Asia; WRF Model Training;  Workshop on “Long Range Forecast for the 2023 Southwest Monsoon Season Rainfall and its application on South Asian Agriculture“ where several scientists have joined from across the globe. SAMA has active collaboration with several reputed organizations while fulfilling its objectives. The activities of SAMA have been helping not only the South Asian Region, but also several other countries in imparting scientific knowledge and enhancing capacity development.

Both Prof. Bhaskar Rao and Prof. Sushil Dash are founder members of SAMA. They have been participating in SAMA activities from time to time. Efforts are being made to build strong collaboration between SAMA and FERCC in designing and executing Educational & Training Programmes in weather and climate for the benefit of teachers and students of selected schools and college. FERCC has partially supported SAMA in terms of small donation and in future it will continue to support to the extent possible.
