A Brief Note on Intromet-2025 Participation by Prof. D. V. Bhaskar Rao

Prof. D. V. Bhaskar Rao, General Secretary of FERCC was invited to participate in the Intromet-2025 symposium organised by the Indian Meteorological Society (IMS) during 18-20 November, 2025 at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune. The main theme of the symposium was “Advances in Tropical Weather, Ocean, and Monsoon Climate Research for a Sustainable Future” covering 28 important scientific topics. About 800+ participants including 50+ international, and 400+ young researchers, participated in the symposium.  The focus of the sessions included climate change, with emphasis on extreme weather events like heatwaves and floods, and achieving sustainable development; weather prediction, ensemble forecasting (NEPS-G), AI/ML applications, for climate modeling; societal impacts linked to disaster preparedness, water management, and agriculture. Prof. Rao attended most of the scientific sessions and participated in the discussions.  As Chief Editor, Vayumandal journal of the IMS he attended the latest issue release and inauguration of Web Portal. 

Prof. Bhaskar Rao attended a meeting of SAMA (South Asian Meteorological Association) on the sidelines of the Intromet symposium, discussed FERCC cooperation with Dr. Ajit Tyagi, Prof. Someswar Das, Dr. Rohini, Dr. Swagata Priya and others as FERCC has been supporting the SAMA activities through funding and academic involvement. He visited the laboratories of Cloud and Aerosol Interaction and Precipitation Enhancement Experiment (CAIPEEX) at the invitation of Dr. B. Padma Kumari, Scientist F and Group Head.  He also met a group of 30 scientists that included 20+ young researchers and had extensive discussions on topics of weather prediction models and air pollution observations and modeling. 

At the Intromet-2025 symposium, FERCC supported 10 awards for students best poster presentation.  As FERCC representative, Prof.Bhaskar Rao organized the evaluation of student poster presentations for FERCC awards.  He further participated and handed over the award certificates to the awardees at the valedictory function. At the valedictory function, he made a brief presentation of the FERCC objectives and activities and encouraged research students to avail FERCC research grants that would facilitate completion of their Ph.D. programs. FERCC participation and support have been acclaimed by the Intromet organizing committee and many senior scientists and administrators.
