Online Teachers’ Training on Climate Education Jointly Organized by FERCC and IMS, Nagpur Chapter

Courses XI & XII on 10^th May 2026

The Foundation for Education and Research in Climate Change (FERCC) and the IMSN, jointly organised the eleventh and twelfth courses in the online program on Teachers Training on Climate Education (TTCE). The program consists of 12 courses. These are the last two lectures in the series. On the 10^th of May, one of the Course Directors, Prof. Sushil Kumar Dash joined the program while the other Prof. D.V. Bhaskar Rao could not join the event. Dr. Ravindra Akre, Coordinator of TTCE and Secretary, IMSN welcomed all dignitaries, resource persons, and participating teachers. Shri. Mayank Tiwari, Scientific assistant, RMC, Nagpur, conducted the program and proposed a vote of thanks, and Ms. Sapna Meena introduced the resource persons.  

Dr. Debishree Khan, Senior Scientist, Solid and Hazardous Waste Management, CSIR-NEERI, Nagpur, delivered her lecture on the topic ‘Community Science and Sociological Development.’  She highlighted the current climate change issues based on manmade activities and subsequent emissions in to the atmosphere. She focuses on the renewable sources of energy, and the role of people at large and the citizen science. She gave the important message that ‘climate action becomes successful when sciences reach the society.’

Dr. Ravindra Akre Retd. Meteorologist IMD delivered his lecture on the topic ‘Introduction to Air Quality.’  He discussed the present situation that is hampering the environment, especially the quality of air, and how it is related to the living beings. He mentioned the types of pollutants, their sources and monitoring, He highlighted on the activities that we can do to save the earth.  He further pointed out the pollutants that are responsible for harming human health and our ecosystem. He left the message for the people to try on their own to keep the environment clean.

After the end of the two lectures, interactions were held between the participating teachers and experts present.  Mrs. Suja Josheph and Dr Dinesh Rase, and the participants actively took part in the discussions. At the end, Prof.  Sushil Kumar Dash on behalf of FERCC thanked the resource persons, participating teachers, Co-ordinator of the TTCE programme Dr. Akre, IMSN office bearers, especially Dr. Praveen Kumar for his continuous presence in organizing the lectures, several volunteers for their cooperation and the RMC Nagpur for overall cooperation and infrastructure provision during the implementation of TTCE program Level-I. At the end of the program, there was an announcement to hold a general meeting for the planning of the Level-II.
