Online Teachers’ Training on Climate Education Jointly Organized by FERCC and IMS, Nagpur Chapter
Courses IX & X on 19th April 2026
The Foundation for Education and Research in Climate Change (FERCC), New Delhi, and the Indian Meteorological Society, Nagpur Chapter (IMSN), jointly organised the ninth and tenth courses in the online program on Teachers Training on Climate Education (TTCE). The program consists of 12 courses. The last two lectures 7th & 8th were delivered on the 22nd March, and the ninth and the tenth in the series were held on 19th April. The Course Director, Prof. Sushil Kumar Dash delivered the welcome address. Prof. D.V. Bhaskar Rao, Honorary Professor, Andhra University & General Secretary, FERCC joined the event. Shri. R. Balasubramanian, Scientist F & Chairman, IMSN could not join, due to his busy schedule. Shri. Gajendra Kumar, Scientist G & Dy. Director General of Meteorology, RMC, Nagpur, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor. Ms. Gunjan Anand, Scientific Assistant, IMD, introduced the speakers and Dr. Ravindra Akre, Coordinator of TTCE and Secretary, IMSN conducted the program, and Shri. Prakash Chinchole, Meteorologist, IMD proposed a vote of thanks. Dr Praveen Kumar, Jt. Secretary, IMSN and the members of FERCC and IMSN contributed a lot to the success of the program.
Dr. Ravindra Akre welcomed all the dignitaries, resource persons, and participating teachers. He focused on the information of the program, and he expressed satisfaction that the program is going to complete its first phase soon. He explained the importance of the current two lectures.
Dr. Rizwan Ahmed, Scientist ‘D’ delivered his lecture on the ‘Use of Satellite Data in Climate Studies’. He discussed the usefulness of satellites in general in our daily life, different types of satellites, and satellite data utility in weather forecasting. He further emphasized on the usefulness of satellites in disaster management, cloud tracking, fog and aviation services, and agriculture. He explained in detail the INSAT-3D images for the benefit of all the participating teachers.
In the second lecture, Dr. Shashi Kant Mishra, Scientist ‘D’, talked on the topic ‘Role of Mathematical Modeling in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).’ He mentioned about the Global Climate Models and Regional Climate Models, climate model products available, the history of international treaties with respect to SDGs, all the SDGs and how to cope with climate change issues for the benefit of all. He further discussed the relationship between sustainability and societal developments.
Shri. Gajendra Kumar appreciated the wonderful TTCE program and wished his best for its success.
After the end of the two lectures, interactions were held between the participating teachers and experts present. Mrs. Suja Josheph, Manimegalai Sivanand, and the participants actively took part in the discussions. Finally, there was announcement for the last two lectures ie. eleventh and twelfth in this series to be held on the 10th May 2026.
