Online Teachers’ Training on Climate Education Jointly Organized by FERCC and IMS, Nagpur Chapter
Courses VII & VIII on 22nd March 2026
The Foundation for Education and Research in Climate Change (FERCC), New Delhi, and the Indian Meteorological Society, Nagpur Chapter (IMSN), jointly organised the seventh and eighth courses in the online program on Teachers Training on Climate Education (TTCE). The program consists of 12 courses in total. Like in the previous six courses, on the 22nd March also, Course Directors, Prof. Sushil Kumar Dash, former HoD, Centre of Atmospheric Sciences, IIT Delhi & President, FERCC and Prof. D.V. Bhaskar Rao, Honorary Professor, Andhra University & General Secretary, FERCC joined the program. Chairman IMSN Shri R. Balasubramanian, and Dr. Ravindra Akre, Coordinator of TTCE and Secretary, IMSN could not attend the program due to their busy schedule. Dr. Praveen Kumar, Jt. Secretary, IMSN coordinated the programme and welcomed all the dignitaries, resource persons, and participating teachers. Ms. Gunjan Anand, ScientificAssistance introduced the resource persons and Ms. Reena Surpam, Meteorologist-A, RMC, Nagpur, conducted the program and proposed a vote of thanks.
The seventh course entitled ‘Use of Radars in Weather Monitoring’ was delivered by Dr.Trisanu Banik, scientist at the India Meteorological Department. He briefly introduced the mechanism of RADAR system, capture of images of clouds and their display, and use of RADAR images in forecasting. He further highlighted the use of RADAR in disaster management, now casting and aviation.
Mrs. Suja Peter Joseph, HoD (Sciences), delivered the eighth lecture on the topic ‘Early Warning and Disaster Management.’ She discussed the different types of disasters with emphasis on India and Nagpur, their increase along with global warming, early warning and effective implementation of disaster management. She further discussed how early warning is helpful to prevent losses of lives and property. Participants gained insights on how to integrate climate education and Sustainable Development Goals and take the messages to the classrooms. Following this practice, will help students to become resilient to climate change and become responsible global citizens.
After the end of the two lectures, interactions were held between the participating teachers and experts.
There was an announcement to hold the next two lectures 9th and 10th on 19th April 2026.
