Online Teachers’ Training on Climate Education Jointly Organized by FERCC and IMS, Nagpur Chapter           

                        Course II on 08^th February 2026

The Foundation for Education and Research in Climate Change (FERCC), New Delhi, and the Indian Meteorological Society, Nagpur Chapter (IMSN) jointly organised the second online program on ‘Teachers’ Training on Climate Education (TTCE)’.  The program consists of 12 courses. The first course was delivered on 25^th and the second in the series was held on 8^th February. Shri. R. Balasubramanian, Scientist F & Dy. Director General of Meteorology, RMC, Nagpur was the Chairperson; Course Directors Prof. Sushil Kumar Dash, Former HoD, Centre of Atmospheric Sciences, IIT, Delhi & President, FERCC; and Prof. D.V. Bhaskar Rao, Honorary Professor, Andhra University & General Secretary, FERCC joined the event.  Dr. Ravindra Akre, coordinator and Secretary, IMS, Nagpur gave the welcome address and conducted the program; Dr Praveen Kumar, Scientist C and Joint Secretary IMS, Nagpur  delivered the talk on the topic ‘Observations and Monitoring of Weather Data’.  Ms. Sapana Meena, Scientific Assistant, IMD introduced the speaker and vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Reena Surpam, Meteorologist; Ajay Rai, members of FERCC and IMS Nagpur contributed a lot for the success of the program.    

Dr. Ravindra Akre welcomed all the dignitaries, resource persons, and participant teachers. He focused on two important aspects such as observations and monitoring of data. The observations and monitoring contribute a lot to forecasting and research. Today we have an incredible lineup of experts who can share their experiences and insights on these aspects.

Dr Praveen Kumar, Scientist, IMD in his lecture discussed basic aspects of various meteorological parameters, instruments for their observations, weather charts, uses of RADAR and satellite and their impacts from the societal perspective. He further mentioned different sources of weather data and their use in forecasting. His explanation of the meaning of 1 mm of rainfall was very much appreciated.

Questions were raised by Dr. Suja Josheph and these were answered by Dr. Praveen Kumar.  Prof. Dash, Prof. Bhaskar Rao and Shri. Balasubramanian also joined the discussion. Shri.  Balasubramanian, interestingly  asked about the meaning of a rainy day which was answered by Ms Athawale that 2.5 mm and more of rain is called a rainy day.    

The program concluded with the announcement of the third and fourth lectures on the 22^nd Feb 2026.
