Earthwatch Institute India

Earthwatch Institute India (EII) is a science-based environmental conservation institution which focuses on scientific research, education and experiential learning, skill development, community-based conservation programmes and field projects, grounded in science to generate knowledge and contribute solutions. EII connects citizens with scientists to increase scientific understanding of environmental issues primarily based on observations of nature by citizens. There is strong collaboration between EII and several academic and scientific research organizations, government institutions, corporations and businesses, students and teachers, self-help groups, executives, social entrepreneurs and technology experts to develop projects and programmes for a sustainable environment. The four pillars of EII are the Cities, Water & Sanitation, Forests and Agricuture. The specific topics include forests, lakes, water bodies and healthy air in urban areas; water conservation, clean water and hygiene; forest conservation, ecosystem services and soil studies; organic farming and soil health.

EII and FERCC have strong collaboration in terms of creating climate and environmental awareness among the school students, corporate sectors and the public at large. Prof. Sushil Dash has been invited by EII several times to join events in schools where he has delivered popular talks on weather, climate change, air pollution and other environmental issues. The follow up discussions with the audience have been very encouraging. In every school event, students participate in measuring some important environmental parameters. Well designed puppet shows are made high lighting air pollution issues in simple language.
